The Onion: RIAA Sues Radio Stations for Giving Away Free Music
LA Times: RIAA Set to Lobby Congress for Radio Station Royalties on Music
Thanx to drfgeek.
Radio stations are already paying to play those songs. Isn't that what liscencing is all about?
Or is this about internet radio?
Nope, this is about "real" radio.
And about how phenomenally stupid and greedy the RIAA is.
The Onion seems to do that a lot. They write a story and a few years later it comes true.
excuse me, but what is RIAA??
Recording Industry Association of America. They act as the trade group handling legal issues for the record industry cartel. They're the ones that pursue filesharing/piracy cases and such.
Looks like someone's been reading my journal. :P
Doh! I forgot to put the thanx tag on the entry. *headdesk* Sorry.
Why has there not been a revolution yet?
My thoughts exactly. Is this another issue that America's just gonna bend over and take like everything else, or is the elastic finally going to snap?
Sorry. My current curiculum at school's makin' me think about these sort of things. ;)
Because people can still live comfortably. Revolution doesn't happen as long as that's the case.
"Let them eat cake! They are eating cake? Good!"
It might as well be true.
Whatever happened to payola? The RIAA used to (illegally) pay (i.e. bribe) radio stations to PLAY their music, to make sure people would hear it.
They seem to be determined to keep anyone from actually hearing their music at all -- so where will their audience come from?
Oh, wait -- all the RIAA member companies own TV production companies and networks, and use their hot shows to pimp their tunes.
While getting advertising revenue.
