Halloween at the office [Oct. 31st, 2003|02:07 pm]

Yay! Fun romping around the new office in the new raccoon 'suit. They even have a sizable costume contest. Of course, I didn't win, 'cause us critters never do. But I must say that the first place winners deserved it; they were playing hillbilly characters and were fantastic improvisers. Hilarious!

There was a fantastic exchange where one of them tried to "catch" me for dinner... Since I was a bit taller than him, I actually lifted him fully off the ground after he threw his arms over me! So, in the middle of the company cafeteria, there's this huge staggering coon surmounted by a hillbilly shouting "We'll eat like kings tonight, Cleetus! I almost got him!"
(Real nice guys, too; I chatted with them a bit afterwards.)

The stats:
Number of costumes (where people put in real effort): 30-35
Number of people who asked if I made my costume: 1
Number of people who said "You MADE that?" when I mentioned it: 8-10
Number of extra posed photos for women* saying how cute the character was: 5
Number of CSI comments heard: 6
Number of negative CSI comments heard: 1
Number of non-furry coworkers who knew about furry/fursuiters (not from CSI): 2
Number of people who are so obviously furry, they just haven't heard of it yet: 1

(*Not meant as a sexist comment, they just all happened to be women.)

First of all, where all the pics, man!

Secondly, I actually did win two work costume contests, one at my former job and one at the job before that. It was a little disappointing that my office is so small, no one did anything at all for Halloween, but at least I didn't have to stress about it. It certainly was a lot more fun last year, though.

By the way, I'm getting pretty good at DDR since Jimmy bought it about a month ago. I think I'm ready to challenge you, though I'll probably lose. ;)

In fursuit or not? I'm ready... And if you beat me, you can challenge Brian. (I'm the mini-boss, to draw an oblique analogy.)

Oh great. :) I get to be the thug that everyone can knock out with one or two hits. :D

So then I'd be the abnormally large boss who hangs out in cul-de-sacs and who is well armored except in one spot, which I expose periodically and predictably? And then every time I was hit I'd have to lash out and destroy some portion of the room. Wow, so much to live up to.

*grins* Nah. You'd be the really flashy boss with the sunglasses that drops out of the ceiling hatch and says,

"You cannot dance a win to me, I am Supreme!"

*grins*

No kidding... One of the comments I got today was "Hey, didn't I see you get killed last night on TV?" Why a raccoon? Sheesh, bad luck.

*grins* Sounds like a cool place to work, indeedy. If Bad Things Happen here, it's not that much farther than my current place of work...

...so how's the commute holding up?

The commute still sucks. My boss is friendly to the concept of telecommuting, but we both agree that's an option to discuss down the road once things have settled into more of a familiar routine.

Definitely a nice place to work. Wanna stop by for lunch some time? I'll give you a tour. Gimme a ring if you're interested.

*grins* P'rhaps when things clear up around here, sure, provided that we're not working for competing companies (I -think- you're one of our customers, but I'm not sure). Under the gun time again for the entire month of November. How's the food in the cafeteria on your end?

I was pleasantly surprised by the cafeteria here. It's run by an outside company, so they have an incentive to make it worthwhile. It is a little overpriced, but the menu items are usually interesting and well prepared.

Hope crunch time goes well for ya!

"We'll eat like kings tonight, Cletus!"

Okay, just picturing that is frickin' hilarious. Damn, I wanna put it in a movie.

Also, "people who are obviously furry, but don't know it yet," is an interesting category... I bet, based on my recent tarantula costume, that my buddy gatcat was thinking the same thing about me.

I actually spoke with her for a while afterwards. She was very interested in the costume, how I made, what sorts of characters I like... She also told me a bit about herself, how she loves animal characters, collects stuffed animals, etc.

So it wasn't too much of a snap judgement but an accumulation of evidence. :)

I really wish someone had been filming or taking photos. So far, though, I haven't been able to turn up any pictures of that highlight.

Heehee! I can just picture it.

Also, I'm curious what the one negative comment was.

It wasn't directed to me, just something I overhead as I was walking through the office.

More or less: "That looks like the stuff on CSI last night.. Did you see that shit? That was really messed up."
