Concert Trip [Dec. 12th, 2003|11:24 pm]

Tonight kit_ping and I went to University of the Pacific, our alma mater, for a concert celebrating the 125th anniversary of the music conservatory. They were playing Beethoven's Ninth which I think is one of the most powerful pieces of music ever written. It's terrific to hear it live, too; I find it fascinating to watch the musicians during the fast and intricate exchanges. The conductor was quite into the emotion of it, too... So much that he was bouncing on the balls of his feet and, to all appearances, one good whisper of wind from toppling completely off the podium. Fortunately, he had good balance. Quite the enjoyable outing for the evening!

Oh? You went to the University of the Pacific. Neat!

Their Mascot, Powercat, is pretty cool, met him on the court a few times down in Anaheim during the Big West tourney. He did a good job on the Mascot challenge they had at the ESPN zone earlier this year. Ranked in the top three... big surprise, he's got visibility AND manipulation *grumbles*

Can't recall which one is the Beethoven's 9th, will have to ask my brother, he knows most of 'em by heart.

Quit jealous, haven't listened to an orchestra in quite some time, not since my own days in high school.

I love live concerts. I'm not overly familiar with Beethoven though - some stuff is all. I can't remember the last concert I went to see though. Glad you two had fun! Have a great holiday season guys.

concert

Live concerts are "da bomb, man" Of course the very best are the ones where you know some of the players. I'm thinking of the performances of the Ninth I've heard where Kit Ping and Agent Miss were playing the French horn and cello. I've got to also add a concert that I took Amanda to, and the Oregon Symphony played Saint Seines (that's not spelled right, and I'm pretty sure spell check isn't going to be any help, any way you know who I mean--the Carnival of the Animals guy.) this time the symphony was playing his Organ Symphony, and when that huge organ came in our very seats vibrated with the music and it was awesome. Ray and I were talking just the other evening that we truly miss going to the MYSA concerts and the high school and college concerts. I really also loved going to the contests that we went to during the girl's high school years. And we even enjoyed the grade school concerts too. You know, watching the kids fence with their bows, leave the instruments tittering on chairs, etc.
