The test launch not only had both stages perform well, they almost exactly hit their target orbit. They were about 1.5 miles (1%) off on their orbital apogee. Second stage had a strong roll which was not intended but it didn't affect the flight's course.

An amazing success!

I know that they are lightning rods. Don't know if they have any secondary purpose.
