Movie Quotes Meme [Jul. 28th, 2006|03:38 pm]
[Current Mood |cinematic]

So, following on from many people, the sort of meme that I find fun:
Identify the Movie Quotes!

- Pick umpteen of your favorite movies
- Select favorite lines from these movies
- Post them and see how long it takes friends to guess them

To be fair, I've avoided obscure B-movies, TV shows released as collections, stand-up concerts, etc. They're all regular movies of varying degrees of obscurity. Quotes might be slightly fudged when they're from memory or avoiding giveaway names. Good luck!

1. "It's reading a quadruple failure. That can't happen. It's gotta be instrumentation."
Apollo 13 - gilmorelion

2. "I've got Hamlet's ghost on the phone for an hour every night complaining that Polonius is sucking sourballs through his speeches. Gertrude is off every afternoon doing a soap, and Claudius is off doing a commercial for Gallo wine. Hamlet himself, would you believe, has come down with a psychological problem."
Noises Off! - twopiearr

3. "The old man thinks he's in love with his daughter."
"Good God. We're out of our depths here."
"No, no, no! He hasn't got a daughter! The old man thinks he's in love with his daughter."
"The old man is?"
"Hamlet... in love... with the old man's daughter... the old man... thinks."

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead - traveller_blues

4. "Well, believe me, I calculated the odds of this succeeding versus the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid... and I went ahead anyway."
Mystery Science Theatre 3000: The Movie - patch_bunny

5. "How long have you been a bellboy?"
"Oh, too long monsieur."
"Well, keep up this good work, and very soon I will see to it that you become a bellman."

Curse of the Pink Panther - traveller_blues

6. "Can you run? I think not."
Watership Down - gilmorelion

7. "...and, gentlemen, that spells 'cash' with a capital --"
"You should really go back to school."
"But I hated teaching!"

Brain Donors - cass_rising

8. "But he was your second husband. Your first husband also disappeared under mysterious circumstances."
"That was his job. He was an illusionist."
"But he never reappeared!"
"Ah, well, he wasn't a very good illusionist."

Clue - twopiearr

9. "I wish you were right. The fact is, these machines work so fast, they are so intricate, the mistakes they make are so subtle... that very often, a human being just can't know whether a machine is lying or telling the truth."

10. "I never saw my momma again. Some people from the cosmetics department fed me a bowl of soup and some bread. Days stretched into weeks. One February they got jammed up during the semi-annual Lincoln's birthday sale. They asked me to help out in Pre-Teen Maternity."
Top Secret! - twopiearr

11. "I love... dew."
Brother Bear - seaweedotter

12. "Condition Red, sir, yes. Jolly good idea. That'll keep the men on their toes."
"Group Captain, I'm afraid this is not an exercise."

Dr. Strangelove: or etc. - seaweedotter

13. "My eyes have been getting worse and worse. I think they call it progressive myopia. I can see things up close, but... but you're just a blur."

"Then you have learned nothing."

15. "Evacuate? In our moment of triumph? I think you overestimate their chances."
Star Wars: A New Hope (aka the original one) - twopiearr

16. "What's the matter Commander? You don't like flying, huh? Aw, this is nothing! You should've been with us five, six months ago! Whoa! You talk about puke! We ran into a hailstorm over the Sea of Japan. Everybody's retching their guts out! The pilot shot his lunch all over the windshield, and I barfed on the radio!"
The Hunt for Red October - traveller_blues

17. "She murdered herself in her sleep."
"You mean, suicide?"
"Oh no, it was murder, all right. She HATED herself."

Murder by Death - patch_bunny

18. "I don't trust this kid any further than I can throw him."

25. "The things we touch have no permanence. My master would say, 'there is nothing we can hold onto in this world. Only by letting go can we truly possess what is real.'"
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - traveller_blues

Only one left! It's an old and lesser-known movie. If no one gets it today, I'll post the answer tomorrow.

Just thought of a movie I know you have.

17. Murder by Death. Has to be.

I swear I know 19, but I can't think of movies with a lot of kids that I think you would list as a favorite film.

I don't know any of the quotes (nor do I know most of the movies they're from, though I've heard of pretty much all of them)... nor should I be reading this, I ought to be working on the thesis... But I did read it, and many of those are hilarious ;)

Reminds me of a movie:
Girl: Wow, is that baby yours?
Guy: Yeah, but we don't know who the mother is.
