Telecommuting [Dec. 13th, 2002|04:35 pm]

[Current Mood |workingworking]

I'm telecommuting today; working from home. It's a definite advantage of my profession. And when I'm working on my computer at home, the television is frequently on in the background.

This gives me access to the banalities of daytime TV. But we have satellite TV service, so I actually have access to hundreds more banalities than regular cable TV. One show I commonly watch, I'm ashamed to admit, is Changing Rooms/Trading Spaces (same show, different country). It's an interesting mix of horror and fascination for me, like watching a traffic accident. Except it's happening in someone's house.

Who signs up for these shows? ("The people you see on them", yes, I know.) I just can't imagine surrendering a room and personal possessions to the whims of an interior decorator. Particularly one that I don't know and that I can't tell, "Keep your damn paint away from that heirloom furniture".

*sigh* Well, back to coding.

Given how popular these shows are, i don't really think you've got anything to be ashamed of; or, at the very least, if it is a source of shame you're at least in good company. (Not that I'm one of em ;) but that has more to do with not having cable)

As for who signs up to be on these shows — they had a pretty good article on the phenom over at Salon a couple weeks back.
