Ninja What!? [Nov. 21st, 2006|01:29 pm]
We all remember the Dot-Com bubble when any stupid idea with a domain name could become a hot business.

But during the 80's, there was the video game bubble. There were some weird games being made back then.

They just don't make games like that anymore... thank God. (And if they do, I really don't think I want to know about it.)

Actually, Ninja Golf is the one game on the Atari 7800 I actually wanted to play.

Even stranger, the date on that box is 1990. 1989/1990 was this strange nexus point in time, and you can prove it if you dig up old Sears catalogs from that era. You have the remnants of the old Atari 7800, the NES was in its prime, and the birth of TurboGrafx-16 and Genesis (packaged with Altered Beast). Arcades were still in their prime, and handhelds were coming out. Superfamicom was late 1990 in Japan, but 1991 here.

If you want an Atari platform that really sucked...well, there's the Jaguar. I even have the Jaguar CD and there are quite a number of sucky games for it. Not even the anthropomorphics of Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy can save you from the horrible gameplay (and lack of music). But there is a cheesy fighter called Kasumi Ninja. Silly beyond compare, and fun for that reason alone. :-)
