Photic Sneeze Reflex but a lot of people seem to not know about it. How about you?Since I've been thinking about sneezing a lot (see previous entry), I wanted to throw out my semi-sorta-monthly curiosity survey. I have |
Had you heard of Photic Sneeze Reflex?
Yep; I knew about it.
Nope; it's news to me.
Do you sneeze is response to sudden bright light?
Pretty consistently... *achoo*
I at least get a tingle in my nose
Not that I've noticed
What? You guys are kidding, right?
I had this really severely when I was a little kid, maybe up until I was ten years old. I used to have a great deal of fun making myself sneeze by looking directly at the sun.
For some reason, it vanished after that, and I don't have it at all anymore. Weird!
You burnt your trigeminal nerve.
Interesting. I wonder if it's because, when you're driving, you're keeping your vision focused forwards.
With me there's usually a delay of a few minutes.
I always wondered about why the sun would make me sneeze when i walked outside on a bright day. I theorized that it's another trait left from evolution. Our ancestors lived in dirty shelters and when they would walk out of a dark dirty shelter the sneezing response to the sun would help clear the crap out of their sinuses. Anyhow, thats what I had come up with when I was younger =3
I've had it all my life. Usually when it's really sunny outside, and I just walk into it. I didn't know it had a name, nor did I ever meet anyone else who did it until last year.
Holy cow! I never knew there was a name for it! O_o I've had it all my life, and my dad as well...bright sunlight is the worst! (And that's part of why my char is nocturnal.)
I also get it going from cold and dark to hot and light.
Also: may not be able to get together this trip. Taking it easy after the road trip and just quietly hanging out. I should be back up this way again in a few months, so maybe then (when things have calmed down more). Looking forward to it!
Hey, no prob. Just drop me a line next time you're in the area and have some free time to kick around.
Yuppers, I have it and always have. Heck, if I stare at a light bulb it will even trigger it.
It's consistently inconsistent, for me. It'll only get triggered only about once every few weeks when I leave for school, but definitely not every time.
