Movie Meme II: Return of the Quotes

It's the ever-popular "identify the 15 movie quotes meme"! (And a week or two after everyone else has done it!)

I used a lot of my favorite quotes last time I did this. So I tried to pick some more obscure ones this time, including some things that aren't technically movies. Just trying to up the challenge level!

Additionally, the first section has a common theme. I think that'll be significantly easier to guess than many of the actual quotes, though. :)

This time, as is the vogue, I'll keep answers screened and just post who identifies them. Be sure to include the quote number with your guesses.

Updated: I'm naming everyone who had a correct answer, since I'm keeping comments screened. I played with the format to try to keep the quotes visible. Apologies to everyone's friends list for the big post. At this point, every quote has been identified by at least one person! That was surprisingly fast for a "challenging" list! Well done, folks. :)

Round One -- Common Link

"I want peace on earth and goodwill towards men."
"Oh, this is ridiculous."
"I want peace on earth and goodwill towards men."
"We are the United States Government! We don't do that sort of thing."

Guessed by twopiearr, closely followed by cass_rising and wordweaverlynn, then crankycoyote, audiwolf, and agentmiss.

(2) "Boy, I told you to go out and find adventure, not bring it home!"

Obscure one, but it didn't escape those sharp-eared fans, spazfox and kevinjdog.

(3) "Asteroids do not concern me, Admiral."

Guessed by twopiearr, as I'd expect. :) Then joemorf and spazfox and menagerie73. A lot of people were close but not quite right.

"Your son is awake."
"Before sunrise, he's your son."

Guessed by kai_ta_loipa and possibly by cass_rising if she mis-numbered. Definitely gotten by gilmorelion, though. Then kinkyturtle, spazfox.

(5) "Do you think this might be some kind of loyalty test? You know, give the 'go' code just to see who'd actually go?"

Guessed by wordweaverlynn, then crankycoyote, gilmorelion, spazfox.

"Briefing for Jeffrey Pelt, the President's National Security Advisor. Most of the Joint Chiefs will be there, along with a few other people."
"Who's giving the briefing?"
"You are."

Guessed by joemorf, then spazfox and agentmiss.

(Bonus) What's the common link between all of these?

Guessed (admittedly) by kai_ta_loipa. (I told you the bonus was easy!) jormorf knew it. As did kinkyturtle and spazfox.

Round Two -- Some Personal Favorites

(7) "Well, I wouldn't argue that it wasn't a no holds barred, adrenaline-fueled thrill ride. But there is no way you can perpetrate that amount of carnage and mayhem and not incur a considerable amount of paperwork."

Guessed by witchofnovember and spazfox. Then agentmiss.

"What the hell is that?"
"Sounds like Cole Porter, sir."
"Well make it stop!"

Guessed by audiwolf.

(9) "And we've got a telegram here from a Mrs. Valerie Pringle. I'm sure it's not a name that any of you recognize, it's just something that one of the Public Affairs people picked up 'cause he liked it. Mrs. Pringle writes, very simply, 'You saved 1968.'"

menagerie73 took flight and named this one, down to the specifics.

"Lemme check the manual, here... Okay, did you insert the intensifier disk?"
"Did you turn the controls 18 degrees to the left?"
"Did that."
"Huh... Well, are you in Europe? Do you need an adapter?"

Guessed by spazfox. Then cameroo and kevinjdog.

(11) "Prancer and Dancer and Donder and Blitzen, and Vixen and Nixon... oh, darn it. I get those names so mixed up, but the kids know their names!"

Also guessed by spazfox and kevinjdog! Then twopiearr made a return visit and guessed it.

"But that's a priceless Steinway!"
"Not anymore."

joemorf got close... Then kevinjdog nailed it.

(13) "Ooh, but curare is better! As my mama used to say, 'Gimme a good neuro-muscular toxin any day!'"

Wow! octavius_rodens actually got this one. Nice. kevinjdog even quoted one of my favorite lines!

(14) "Now, to another matter: the record levels of unemployment. Many say that unemployment is the result of government mismanaging and underspending. Nothing could be further from the truth. We all know the real cause of unemployment, don't we gentlemen? Unemployment, in this country, is caused by pixies."

kevinjdog got this obscure one. Man, we think alike sometimes. And that's scary.

(15) "Why did I follow him? I don't know. Why do things happen as they do in dreams? All I know is that when he beckoned I had to follow him. From that moment we traveled together east... Always into the east..."

Guessed by cameroo. This was a tricky one, too. agentmiss knew it too, though she guessed the wrong act.

Have fun, everyone!
