A Good Weekend

We've had a pretty good weekend here. The weather has cleared and warmed up; we've actually had some real burn-causing sun.

Got the living room actually cleaned up, largely by taking a full carload of recycling over to the transfer station. (Our situation with household recycling bin pickup is screwed up at the moment. Don't ask.) Plus I got some time to work in the sewing room and to clean up part of the kitchen.

We also got some lighting installed that we bought, I don't know, about a month after we moved in? It was one of the many post-home-purchase trips to Home Despot where we grabbed several boxes of track lighting kit and some immitation-antique-brass-thats-just-nice-plastic fixtures.

I think it's a required part of that euphoric new homeowner phase. You walk around the house saying "Well, we'll replace that, obviously," while making sweeping gestures towards, for example, an entire bathroom.

So you end up buying lots of stuff that, honestly, you do want to be part of your house. But then the realization sets in that buying the parts takes only a fraction of the time of actually installing everything. Plus you discover, once you start removing say a lighting fixture, that the electrical box built into the ceiling is rotated ninety degrees the wrong way to attach the track lighting power supply screws but it's an academic point as the recepticle is also a non-standard size and the screw holes are an inch too close together. For instance.

So the new track lighting is up in both hallways and it looks wonderful and I'll be happy to show it to you so long as you don't ask whether I had to resort to gluing it to the ceiling.

We wrapped up this afternoon by getting haircuts (and Timothy didn't cry at all) and heading over to Battle Point Park on the west side of the island. It's pretty nice. Mostly open fields but with a wonderful, sprawling, wooden play structure.

And some swings. Timothy is really into swings! He also went down a slide for the first time and that was also fun. He even used his hands to try to push off from the top. In a few years, I swear he's going to be wanting to ride rollercoasters.

  • Home Improvement

Just finished a major piece of home improvement.. Had our rather weathered and sorry deck rebuilt. Also added a gate and special feature.. :D…

  • Happy Fourth of July!

Hope you're all having a great day. Tim on the swings at the park in town, listening to the band. Love his expression. Man, when was the last…
