Coolest Scooter EVAR* [Aug. 14th, 2008|12:42 pm]
* Coolness for applicable fandom members only. Check with your doctor.

On the way back from getting lunch, I passed a scooter parked on the street. It was a light aqua and a typical sort of scooter...

But it was labeled with the product logo as a Scooty Puff Sr ("The Doom-Bringer!"). :D

If you don't get it, I won't explain it. I'll let Wikipedia explain it instead.

Haha! A coworker gave me a decrepit '81 Honda Express SR to tinker with, betting that I couldn't fix it. It's now tooling around, getting 90mpg. Same painful color scheme, the rear fender is missing and other bits had disintegrated in the 20 years since it was last registered, so I've had to cobble some things back together. Considering a repaint, some modding and joining the Moped Army!

The irony is that I openly refer to it as the ScootyPuff Jr. due to it's underwhelming power and acceleration. At least it can get moped tags with it!

Considering an '09 Yamaha C3 or spending a little more and getting an '09 Piaggio Fly150 as an upgrade. I miss my old Vespas!

The Moped Army pic is nifty.

I didn't realize there were special "moped tags". Never really thought about it; I just assumed they were in the same class as motorcycles, as far as licensing.

Mopeds are really cheap to own/operate. They do require a bit more attention to operator environs than most car drivers realize. I commuted for years on an '85 Puch Maxi 2hp. The commute was fun and I was using .97 gallons of fuel per week. I'm going to have to find a gentler route to work (the direct route has a 400' elevation change in a 2.5 mile stretch), but I do plan to do as much commuting and errand-running as possible with this little Honda. I'd be totally content with it if there weren't so many local roads with 45mph speed limits. It's hard to coexist in traffic when you max out at 2/3 of the speed limit.

Haven't joined the Moped Army yet, but I've signed on for the MRA and have been posting about my questions and findings on the Express SR.

Cool! I loved that episode, though I did have to search to find an image of the logo. I'd forgotten what it looked like:
