Writing, writing, writing

So, what've I been up to? Lots of writing!

I'm participating in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), as I think I've mentioned before.

The goal is a 50K word draft in the month of November. We just passed the halfway point chronologically and word-wise I'm at 22K. Close but slightly behind. So it's more writing, writing, writing for me!

So far, though, I like how my novel is coming along. It's an interesting fantasy/fable story (yes it has anthros, no it doesn't have elves, dragons, or any of the usual fantasy stuff). The characters are well on their journeys (many of them in the same direction, even) and chaos is about to burst forth and interrupt their plans. Defying NaNo tradition, I have also tried hard to avoid any blatant word-count padding which I would just need to edit out later. I'm also amazed by the (unintentional) things people write under pressure.

The new laptop purchase: very worthwhile. The iBook has been great for portable writing. The OS is a bit laggy (sometimes pausing egregiously during application switching) but very reliable and usable.

So I'm hoping that I'll be able to "win" Nano and make it to 50K. Just remember, the reason most people don't write a book is that they never start!
