Ratatouille: Chef's Toque

Blueberry Season



I totally forgot to post this last weekend when it happened:

We went blueberry picking at a local farm on the island. We all love blueberries and this was a fun new family experience. (At least it was for me, as I've never harvested blueberries.)

It's perhaps a testament to how much Timothy likes blueberries that we were able to keep him interested in picking berries for an hour and a half(!) without too much boredom or wandering. He sometimes doesn't like to sit still through a whole movie. So it actually turned out to be a pleasant afternoon for us all (even Lottie, riding along in the chest carrier).

Five pounds of fresh berries for $14. Not bad.

One bunch went into the blueberry tart pictured above. Hidden under the berries is a layer of crème anglaise (starch-thickened pastry cream with vanilla) to make a nice chilled item. Yum yum. This is a great time of year. :9
