Old-Timey Christmas (G+ xpost)

I meant to share this earlier... At Christmas, we watched "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" with Timothy. A family favorite, we all piled onto the bed with a bowl of popcorn. We pulled out an old VHS copy of the movie. It was the first time we'd used the VCR built into our old downstairs TV with Timothy around, I think.

At the end of the movie, we got up, I pushed the button on the TV, and we had roughly the following exchange:

    Tim: "What are you doing?"

    Me: "Rewinding the tape."

    Tim (confused): "Why?"

Me: "So it's back at the beginning."

Tim (completely confused): "Why? Back to beginning? We're watching it again?"

I didn't have the heart to explain about linear, analog media or how old I suddenly felt.

The kids who grow up thinking it's normal that you touch a screen, that you should be able to randomly access any content, that you are always connected, that things are always connected... they're gonna produce some wild stuff. :D Unfortunately, I'll be busy being old.
