OK (The Way Things) Go [Mar. 4th, 2010|10:51 am]
On the off-chance you haven't seen it...

OK Go's video for "This Too Shall Pass"

Another incredible one-shot video (and a good song). Here's an article on how they did it, too.

Also watch closely in the bit with the chrome bowling ball. You get a good view of the under-appreciated steadycam operator who had to weave around and capture all this. :)

In case you don't get the reference in the post title, one of the first times this sort of video (single shot of a Goldberg-ish device) was popularized AFAIK was the 1987 German art film The Way Things Go. You can buy a copy on Amazon. It's similar to this but with more chemical connections in the machine. (And two edits - it's not technically single-shot.)

Great video!

As for steadycam shots, my favorite below!

The actual shot is about 2.05 in here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qR-cNtm3Ek

OMG, what a shot! That's darn impressive. And it meshes with the performance, too.

Another famous one is Honda's "Cog" ad, also done in two shots.

Wow, thanks for embedding (and I totally appreciated the steadycam operator).

Glad to share and boost OK Go's songs.

Wait. That wasn't a sarcastic, "Oh thanks, Mr. No-Cut-Tag", was it?

No, wasn't being sarcastic... I just didn't have anything more intelligent to say!

That's cool. Just wanted to make sure I was reading it right. :)

Simply Amazing...

I'm sure it would have been better if it would have started with a mouse in a wheel running. :)

Actually, "The Way Things Go" was a Swiss film. Annnnd... I'm pretty sure it had more than two edits.

Wow, that was elaborate. Must have had weeks of testing to get it all timed up.
