Employment Opportunities at Amazon [Apr. 13th, 2011|04:19 pm]
Nicodemus

I don’t often post about work stuff but we are looking for experienced folks and I thought I’d put out the call to friends here. These are roles in my branch of the company so you need to be in or willing to relocate to Seattle. (It’s great up here!)

Software Developers

Are phrases like “abstract factory”, “O(log n)”, and “unit test” part of your vocabulary? Do you want to work on global-scale development? Ever dreamt in Java (or Ruby or..)?

We’re looking for developers with 3+ years experience. Desirable skills: strong language and algorithm knowledge, service-oriented architecture, scalability, Linux/Unix environment, database familiarity, software architecture and design patterns.

Technical Project Managers (my role!)

Are you Agile or do you run Scrums? Does inefficiency annoy you? Do you habitually say things like “external dependency”, “milestone deliverable”, and “critical path”? Even though you’re shepherding projects, do you still understand the technical details that underlie it all?

We’re looking for project managers with 3+ years experience and strong technical backgrounds to be involved in roadmap planning, driving projects to completion, helping to design system architecture, and ensuring our engineers can be as productive as possible.

Other Key Roles

We are also on the lookout for Oracle DBAs, QA testers, and QA testing automation folks.

Also feel free to browse the site's job postings.

Interested?

Drop me a line at nicodemustherat (note "the" in the middle) at gmail.

Comments on this entry are PUBLIC so that it can be used for Q&A.

Thanks folks!

It's a really nice place, actually. I'm very happy we moved up here.

I really don't know. Unlikely unless you're an ideal fit. But it appears we're looking for a dev manager in Slough if that's of interest. :)

Well, lemme ask and see if we'd potentially do a visa arrangement. No harm in asking!

Investor visas require an investment of, as far as I know, between half and a million dollars, and the creation of I think between 4-10 jobs (depending on the region)

If you can do that though, go for it!

If you want to stay in the UK, Amazon has development centres in Scotland.

But my Amazon co-workers seem to come from everywhere in the globe...

Hmmmm. gramina is looking for work as an Agile project manager -- and we've seriously discussed moving to Seattle. I'll have her send in her resume.

Discounts on books?

Sounds good. Have her email her resume and any questions or target job guidelines to that nicodemustherat email address. I'll take a look.

And, yes, employees get a discount on Amazon-fulfilled retail items. It's only 10% and being a Washington resident you have 8.5% sales tax. But it's something.

Are you Agile or do you run Scrums?

...you're looking for rugby players?

This is tempting...

Are you on linkedin? Could add my profile there and get access to my CV. I have years of experience in Java development. :)
