I like fruity tarts. (Insert obvious joke here.)

Made these the other night. Really not too much work. I put them in premade graham cracker crusts and overly-cute leaf ramekins.

They're pastry cream (créme pâtissiere) with some fresh berries and crystal sugar on top. Pastry cream is essentially a simple cooked custard. With a nice shot of vanilla, since I'm fond of it.

These urges to cook desserts always seem to strike in the evening (as evidenced by the stove clock). I need to either (a) have more quick-to-make recipes like this or (b) get these urges much earlier in the evening. :)

You may virtually have one. Physically... doubt there'll be any left by the time you get over here! They aren't too hard to make so I'd encourage you to try your hand at it.

Berries.

We do the same with a basic pastry crust from scratch. Yes... we do grind our own flour and get eggs from the neighbor. But our strawberries (~100 plants) are in full stride right now, we get about 2 lbs a day from them. That equals lots of jam, tarts and small pies in addition to smoothies (we make our own yogurt as well) and shakes. simple and easy, good for you and tasty. I'm a berry fan as well. Next month, the rasperries and blueberries will start. Then it will be happy time.

Best recipe ever that is quick and tasty:
3 tablespoons raspberry Torani sauce (get it at Cost Plus or similar) add 1/2 lb of mixed berries to a sauce pan. Can be frozen, but much better fresh. Cook over medium heat until sauce just starts to boil. Serve warm over french vanilla ice cream. :)

Ooh, wow, you've got a whole bunch of strawberry plants? Lucky lucky lucky. I'm a huge fan of strawberries and blueberries and "too much" has never been a problem. (Yes, I too believe in jamming.) Very cool.

100+ or so strawberry plants, 14 blueberry bushes and about 50 feet of thornless rasperries. ;)

*has a sudden sweet tooth attack* Mmmmmmmm... I haven't tried to make tarts before, but that may just have to change sometime this summer. *ponders* However, I do have a freezer full of bananas that are begging to become banana bread.
