Last Word Puzzle of the Year [Dec. 30th, 2012|04:24 pm]
Nicodemus
As we close out an eventful (but not all that great) year, let's celebrate with a word puzzle! It's a New Year's tradition as old as... well, about 10 minutes ago when I thought of it, really.

For each clue, find the word that ends with the name of an animal.

EX: A small variety of songbird -- titmouse

Animal Ends

  1. Avocados put to excellent use
  2. Support used when cutting lumber
  3. Measurements for gemstones
  4. A large group of soldiers or fighting units
  5. Metal alloy common in building construction
  6. A dejected or guilty appearance
  7. To reinforce or make more durable
  8. Type of grape used for both wine and raisins
  9. A silly, eccentric, or goofy person
  10. Unfairly putting your interests ahead of others
  11. Railroad sign built from two pieces
  12. An angry or upset expression directed at someone

I think 9 might be more akin to jackass. But there are a lot of similar terms.

I was thinking "dingbat" -- hard to clue effectively though. I'd take both alternate answers there.
