GeoGuessr - Geography at Ground Level [May. 24th, 2013|12:24 am]
In case you've not already tried it, check out GeoGuessr. Annoyingly spelled yet brilliant game! Very simple and barely a "game" per se, yet such a captivating concept.

My house rules
* No googling any names or numbers sighted in street views.
* Looking up countries in Wikipedia is okay (and useful for checking guesses on flags).
* Knowing Google's coverage map is okay and tremendously helpful!

My high score
243824 points
On this round of locations.

Obligatory XKCD

This is right up my alley! Every time I see a movie I always try to determine the filming locations. I always love it when they say they're in Illinois or Kansas and yet there's a big snow-capped peak in the background. I also love using my knowledge of geology when I see a rock outcrop. In fact after 9/11 when Osama released a video of himself with a cliff in the background I said, " I bet if they got a geologist who knew the rocks of Afghanistan, they could have him pinpointed within a few hundred square kilometers." Several months later I read that an Afghan geologist DID come forward and complain that he offered his services to the CIA but they had turned him down,
