Rosetta comet rendezvous is a triumph for the European Space Agency

Rosetta has finally arrived and the first images coming back are fantastic!

And it still looks like a battered rubber ducky. =:) (Is that an actual crater at the right edge, I wonder?)

FWIW, the coming "orbits" are visualised over here - a series of triangular passes, before going closer in, in a couple stages, at 30 and 10km, before the lander's sent off to the chosen site.

All fairly amazing. Even moreso when you think what the state of the art in aviation technology was, but a century ago. (And photography, and electronics..) Humanity can achieve some astounding things, when it wants to.. !

Holy cow... I'd seen the orbital approach described but not visualized. What intricate maneuvering this will be!
