Hackitude [Jul. 19th, 2004|09:03 pm]
Today was a good day at work. Last week, my manager walked me through some code he wrote for our project. It's a parser that was running unexpectedly slowly. So slowly that we both knew something was obviously wrong, even though it was error-free. Friday, I did some profiling and figured out some spots to focus on...

So today I put my optimization skills to the test. It now runs... 94% faster! Woot!

Rearranging data structures and just a few C++ tricks. His algorithm was solid, it was just the implementation. But that sure impressed him! Tomorrow the boss'll see the numbers. :>

Yes, these m4d c0ding sk1llz DO indeed pay th3 billz, as they say.

Yeah! Good days at work are always, well um, good... Are C++ tricks as fun at parties as the juggling?

No, not nearly, unless it's a coder party.

Maybe you should try some black magic on the C++, unless of course it's all black magic and you haven't been telling...

Have you ever looked at any programming books? Do they look like English? ;)
