Discovery just completed a beautiful launch and maneuver into orbit. Congratulations to everyone at NASA for their fine work! You make America the human race proud.

lift off isn't that hard it's re-entry thats a hurdle. goodluck and safe journey

Mmmm, depends how you look at it. Historically, we've lost one orbiter on both launch and return. At launch I would think it's more dangerous but there are more safety and abort options.

yeah more can go wrong in launch but it'sa mroe controlled enviornment, re-entry you dont have a lot of control or options beyond setup, and you can't scrub an entry attempt for a few weeks if you detect a problem.

That's true. There's really only one way to do re-entry; during the launch sequence there are far more options.

I didn't see the launch, but i heard that some piece of a heatshielding got loose during take-off =/ Hope they get it fixed.
