Meme: Unique Things [Jan. 30th, 2006|09:28 pm]
[Current Mood |con-cruddy]

Meme grabbed from kit_ping and others. Being my wife, I'm excluding her from this meme, due to owning property in common.

Name a CD you own that you think no-one else on your friends list does.
A Drummer Boy's Christmas by Eric Darken. (Looking for that elusive marimba version of Carol of the Bells.)

Name a book you own that you think no-one else on your friends list does.
Salt: A World History by Mark Kurlansky [hardback edition] (It's actually a really interesting book if you like culinary history.)

Name a movie you own on DVD/VHS/etc. that you think no-one else on your friends list does.
Doesn't really qualify as a "movie", but my Apollo 11 - Men on the Moon DVD set is cool and relatively rare. (It has a lot of the original footage, unaltered and uncut. You can sit and watch all of man's first spacewalk!)

If you want a proper movie, I'll say the most obscure movie I have is The Rats are Coming! The Werewolves Are Here!. (IMDB) It's a really horrible movie that I picked up for the title while looking for MST3K fodder. Boring, droning, and pallid. I don't recommend it.

If you want a good but obscure movie that I own, how about The 5000 Fingers of Dr. T. (IMDB) It was the only live-action movie written and art-directed by Dr. Seuss. Though it bombed, I think it has some insane charm.

So... I guess that's really three answers to one question. Dang. I'll bet that the middle one is unique. The others are rare, too, and I'll still be surprised if my friends list has those.

Name a place that you have visited that you think no-one else on your friends list has.
Tough to choose a place distinctive enough to have a name and be described, yet that no one else would have visited. I'll go with my rat instincts and pick the center of the Hampton Court Maze in England.

Name a piece of technology or any sort of tool you own that you think no-one else on your friends list has.
Hmmm... I've got both tech-saavy people and hoarders on my f-list, so this is tricky. I was going to say my Apple ][gs, but then I remembered that I got a strange gift this Christmas: A California Car Duster. And I have the genuine as-seen-on-TV article, too. Before I got this, I didn't even realize that I was supposed to dust off my car! Now, it's one of the many stupid consumer chores that I cheerfully neglect (such as regularly cleaning my VCR's case with a dustcloth).

So there's my obscure items! Anyone got these?

Cool. I think paperback should count for a match. I just put the "hardback edition" in the post to fully annotate the link.

I haven't seen 5000 Fingers of Dr. T in something like twenty years.

And I've read that Salt book! There's a giant salt shaker in one of our Ironclaw books, since it's faux Renaissance. ^.^

Geeze, first a bra for your car now a duster... with all the weird stuff coming out sounds like your owning some sort of mechanical grandma. New 87 Octane Metamucil! Leans out lead deposits and gives you 100% RDA of fiber!

The "things no one else has" memes are tricky with a large fannish friends list: I own the salt book and may even have it on tape/disk...I -almost- bought "Drummer Boy's Christmas"...while I don't own the Apollo 11 set, I think I have two friends who do...I have "The Rats Are Coming, The Werewolves Are Here" on tape somewhere (I have way too many bad werewolf movies). "Werewolves on Wheels" is even better: Stan Winston's first make-up job! I have the original poster for "5000 Fingers of Dr. T." (my second rarest movie poster!).

I -think- I did the Hampton Court maze but it was *years* ago and all those mazes tended to blend together in my memory.

But ya' got me on the California Car Duster: mine's feelthy!

I had trouble coming up with items that I thought would be unique.

But you've got a copy of tRaCtWaH (I'm tired of typing that stupid title)? I am impressed! That's a pretty rare movie. Deservedly so, too, I'd argue!

Werewolves on Wheels is fun. If you can find it, Werewolf of Woodstock is a hilariously cheesy one. (Features a wolfy dune buggy chase, IIRC.)

Also, though I have a Car Duster, my care is also still filthy.

I'm impressed by your excellent(?) taste! You've matched a much higher slice of my posessions than I thought any single person would. :D

Yeah, I've got "tRaCtWaH" also, along with several other Andy Milligan movies. Why? Um... I don't know. I guess once you've bought "Invasion of the Blood Farmers," you can buy pretty much anything.

I've got one of those California Car Dusters. The idea is you can use it to keep your car looking clean between washes, when it's just dusty enough to not look clean, but not yet dirty enough to bother washing.

I highly recommend the California Dash Duster, which is great for cleaning the dash and other dust magnet spots inside.

I know a film collector friend who's got "5000 Fingers of Dr. T"
and I've seen it at his place. And I've got an Apple IIgs! >:)
