Da Newz [Feb. 10th, 2006|10:05 pm]
I do try to avoid posting "what I did today" entries. Since it's been a while since I wrote anything here, I will give a brief summary of what I've been up to:

  • Work -- Yep, more of the same. Some interesting coding work interspersed with boring meetings and bracketed by long commutes.
  • Writing -- Still working on my novel draft. I haven't made much progress since FC, since I erased and rewrote a bit. I've got 67K words in the current draft, for those of you playing along at home.
  • Cleaning -- The house has been a mess since before the holidays. Progress is slowly being made on improving it. The embarassment threat level has been reduced from "elevated" to "guarded".
  • Friends -- Got a chance to see pippinbear and lyctiger while they were in the area, which was very cool. Did not get a chance to see twigmouse, which was not cool, and he needs to give me more notice next time! ;) Also found some new and old friends on LJ.
  • Work -- Did I mention that?

Thanks for inviting me to the improv panel at FC.
Had I been better prepared mentally, and also schedule wise, I would've really loved to stay for the whole thing.

In fact after we were done we wanted to go back, but it was over :|

I always wanted to write a novel, but I can't. I just cut to the point, I can't help it, my best novel effort turned into a 3 page short story =P

Hey, no worries, I'm glad you did stop by for a while. It didn't run as late this year as it usually does. I think that's because I was really worn out from events earlier in the day and badly needed sleep. Dang physical bodies. :P

I'm kinda the opposite on writing. I always got frustrated writing short stories; I never felt I had a chance to tell a real tale. This is my first time writing a novel (thanks to NaNoWriMo). I didn't think it would work but I'm actually quite enjoying it. It's turned out to be a long process (since I have a long story to tell) but I am progressing...

We (Marajan and I, Marajan being the guy that came in with me, whose name nobody remembered ;) were "whooshing" and "Bonging" all con long after that, we didn't "ramp" much though. That was a fun little game ^^

Well, thing with me is I /want/ to write more, but even putting my best effort to say things with as many words as I can, I fail =P
This is what I consider my best work as of yet. I originally planned it to be a novel with many chapters, but I only wrote the first (and of course it was too short); so one day I just rewrote the whole thing as a short story (as a final exam for a class). Ah well =P

It has a few typos and errors, I fixed them in my computer but never corrected that LJ entry, or the story's web page

I'd appreciate if you could read it (it won't take more than 5 minutes) and tell me your opinion, wether here or in the entry I pointed to above :)

I was going to email you, but I wasn't sure you'd get it in time. Now that I've got your cellphone number *covets it*, I shall notify you of my plans next time (which will hopefully not be too far in the future). Also, you should have my cellphone number in your phone since I called you. Let me know if you'll have a wednesday or thursday off. I can come down there with very little notice (a day or less) if I have no previous obligations. We must exchange cheese ;-)

Yes yes. (And I should remember to actually save that number in my cell phone!)

I can arrange for leaving work early Wednesdays and having a free evening with a bit of notice. And there's a superb local cheese shop on Alameda which I know you would love. So, with a bit of notice, we could certainly set up a Wednesday dinner thing. Sorry it just didn't work out this visit.

And it was good to meet you, too! It's good to be able to have an actual conversation - it helps one get to know people, something that's somewhat harder at larger group meets and unfortunately, in my experience, almost impossible at a con. So thank you!
